A SIXTEEN year-old wheelchair athlete from Taunton has won three gold medals in the 2015 Brazil Paralympic School Games.

Representing Great Britain and Northern Ireland in the three day competition in Natal, Jamie Edwards, who’s studying at The Castle School, won the T33 100m, 400m and 1500m races. He achieved two personal best times in the 400m and 1500m.

Speaking about his achievements, Jamie said:

“Going to Brazil was an awesome experience and the best week of my life so far. I made lots of new friends who I will be keeping in touch with. The coaches were amazing because they helped me improve my strengths and focus on his weaknesses.”

Edwards, who only started racing in 2014 and has already competed in two London mini marathons, trains with Yeovil Olympiads Athletics Club – where he recently picked up an award for Best Track Performance. Jamie was first introduced to wheelchair athletics at school and in his first ever race at the Parallel Games, came second.

It was Jamie’s first taste of international competition.
