WIVELISCOMBE kicked off the new season with a comprehensive 166-run victory over Roadwater in Division One of the West Somerset Cricket League.

A fine century from George Hale and half-centuries from George Sinnott and Rob Pinney helped Wivey amass 271-5 from their 40 overs, before three wickets apiece for Matt Redwood (3-18) and Gareth Bellamy (3-8) and two from George Sinnott (2-21) saw the visitors to a comfortable victory.

Holford opened their account against Bridgetown and came away with a three-wicket win.

Mile Richards starred for Bridgetown with 86 as they posted 166-7 but B. Buller (48) and T. Buller (46no) just had enough to see Holford over the line.

Bishop's Hull's J. Holley took 5-30 to see his side to a 151-run win against Over Stowey.

The Bishops scored 219 with D. Chanter hitting 59 but Holley proved too good for Over Stowey.

Lydeard St Lawrence had N. Hill to thank for their three-wicket win against Sampford Arundel.

Sampford could only muster 126 batting first, but Lydeard's reply stuttered but was saved by Hill's unbeaten 82.

In Division 2, Crowcombe's O. Rew had a field day against Bagborough, picking up 6-33 and an unbeaten half-century as his side won by 67 runs.

Batting first, Crowcombe hit 193-7; in reply, Rew and E. Harding (3-34) bowled Bagborough out for 126, despite J. dingle hitting a fine 51.

Carhampton's C. Knight (4-32) and M. Long (4-11) bowled Minehead out for 122, leaving their batsmen to cruise home to a four-wicket victory, despite J. Richards taking 4-22.

C. Hooper was on form for Dulverton as he hit 85 in his side's total of 200 against Morebath, who could only muster 91 in reply.

Ashbrittle had half-centuries from W. Embleton (70) and R. Williams (52) in their total of 229-6 against Huish Champflower, despite R. Buckingham taking three of their wickets.

Huish could on reach 131 with J. Escott hitting 41.

Timberscombe bowled Taunton out for 109, then cruised to a seven-wicket victory.

In Division 3, runs were at a premium. Churchinford could only reach 66 against Stoodleigh's 164-6 with B. Webb taking 5-19 and hitting 62 for the winners.

Wiveliscombe 2nds could only hit 78 against Cannington's attack but then their bowlers took six wickets to salvage some points.

Winsford staggered to 138 against Brompton Ralph but they still won by 32 as A. Blackmore took 7-31.

Cutcombe were skittled out for 68 as A. Clist took 4-33 against Hemyock, who then cruised to an eight-wicket win.

J. Salt's unbeaten 58 ensured Bridgwater Pointers beat Stoke St Mary by five wickets after they posted 155-7.

Bowlers were in the ascendancy as Roadwater 2nds beat Crowcombe 2nds by four wickets in Division 4.

S. Aspey (5-24) and D. Middleton (5-18) bowled Crowcombe out for 107 but Roadwater made it home despite a fine 5-38 spell by C. Brewer.

A magnificent 152 from G. Pike was the highlight of North Curry's 246-6 against Stoke St Mary 2nds.

The Saints could only reach 122 but had A. Norrie scoring a fine 57.

Buckland St Mary posted a meagre 95 against Stoke St Gregory as S. Willey took 3-17 but they still won by 56 as I. Every took 4-7 and N. Govier 4-8.

M. Hayman hit an unbeaten 54 as Milverton reached 166-7 but Dunster's S. Twiss replied with a fine 85 as his side squeezed home with a wicket to spare.

North Newton were short on runs at 125 all out but their bowlers reduced West Monkton 2nds to 97 all out in reply.

In Division 5, Over Stowey just made it home by eight runs against Ashbrittle A who could only reach 160-8 before the overs ran out.

Kilve slumped to 85 all out as they chased Fitzhead's lowly 106.

A fine unbeaten half-century from East Huntspill's A. Harding saw his side to a ten-wicket win after Stogumber 2nds were bowled out for 112, L. Holmes taking 3-15.
