THE prospect of an FA Cup tie against League 1 rivals Bristol Rovers has increased the buzz around Taunton Town, writes Bob Summerhayes.

The Peacocks, preparing for their First Round replay at Barrow on Tuesday night, have been drawn to play at Rovers (or Crawley Town), subject to the result of their own replay after a 1-1 draw at Crawley.

Club chairman Kevin Sturmey said: “What a fantastic occasion that would be - the icing on the cake.

“It was such a thrilling match on Sunday with a capacity crowd, to keep that atmosphere going would be tremendous.

“But we can’t get ahead of ourselves and sorting out the logistics of this replay at Barrow is fully occupying my time at the moment.”

The team will travel up on Monday, stay in a hotel overnight, then prepare for the club’s biggest night match in its history.

Sturmey said: “That’s the plan. Some players are struggling to get time off work . . . helping them is the very first consideration.

“We’re not sure what the depth of TV coverage will be and if there will be an extra financial bonus.

“Whichever way, it’s a day to savour for our fans, too, and we have organised at least one coach to leave the Viridor Stadium on Tuesday at 10am.
