WELLINGTON'S Anthony Wright and Taunton's Ben Bonfield were among the award winners when over 100 drivers and enthusiasts gathered at Wiscombe House to celebrate the success of the leading competitors in the 2016 Bridge Tyres and Wheel Point S Wiscombe Park Hillclimb Championship.

After a hard-fought season encompassing nine qualifiers Wellington’s Anthony Wright took the premier award and a cheque for £300 in his turbo-charged four-wheel-drive Audi A3.

The former circuit racer has consistently been in the race for the championship in recent years but has always been beaten to the finishing post but this year the operation manager amassed a points total of 90.08 to defeat second-placed and reigning champion Ian Ingleheart.

The Mercedes Benz master technician took his Westfield SEi to a tad over two points in arrears of the new champion and collected the Eric Moxom Memorial Trophy for his efforts.

The Westfield marque also featured in the final top three placing with the Suzuki Megabusa powered example of Shillingstone driver Andrew Forsyth claiming third place.

Forsyth’s points tally totalled 87.01 in a season of competition at south west venues when he was defeated on only one occasion.

Motor cycle action is a large part of the on-track action at Wiscombe Park and nine-time champion Paul Jeffery rode his KTM SMR to secure the British Championships of the National Hill Climb Association winning the prestigious Sir Nicholas Williamson Trophy.

Taunton Mini driver Ben Bonfield, a previous Young Driver of the Year, took the Austin Mini he campaigns with his father Tony Bonfield to sixth place in the Wiscombe series and to first place in the sprint championship of the Association of South Western Motor Clubs, also sponsored by the Wellington-based Bridge Tyres concern.
