SOMERSET County Cricket Club will start their quest for County Championship glory against Essex at the Cooper Associates County Ground on April 14.

The English Cricket Board (ECB) has revealed this year’s fixture list, and the club will certainly be hoping to go one better this year after they were narrowly pipped to the post by Middlesex in the final game of last season.

It will also be a historic year for the club, and the county championship, with the first ever day/night test matches being held, with Somerset taking on Hampshire at the Rose Bowl under the floodlights.

After the first game, the club will head to Old Trafford to play Lancashire, on Friday, April 21, before having two home games against Warwickshire and Hampshire in May, starting on Friday May 19 and Friday May 26 respectively.

At the beginning of June, they will head to current champions Middlesex, on June 2, seeking revenge for last year’s nail-biting finish, before a home clash against Yorkshire on June 9 and then the night/day test at the Ageas Rose Bowl on June 26.

July will see the club make the long journey up to Headingley to play Yorkshire on July 3, before a month-long break for the championship.

They will play Surrey on August 7 at the Cooper Associates County Ground, and will travel to Essex on August 28.

Then, as the competition culminates, the games come thick and fast for the club.

They will travel to Edgbaston to play Warwickshire on September 5, followed by a home match against Lancashire on September 12, with another away trip to Surrey on September 19, with the season rounding off, at home, against Middlesex on September 25.
