SOMERSET'S Josh Davey took four wickets for Scotland to enable them to pull off a last over victory against the Netherlands in the Desert T20 at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi on Tuesday.

When Scotland were put into bat they were soon in trouble when Somerset’s Roelof van der Merwe struck with the fourth ball of the innings.

His Somerset team mate Paul van Meekeren followed this up taking two wickets in five balls which had the Scots reeling at 13 for three.

Eventually they recovered to post 148 for seven which included 38 for Richie Berrington, before he was LBW to Van der Merwe, and an unbroken eighth-wicket stand of 28 of which Josh Davey made nine not out.

Van der Merwe ended with two for 26 from his four overs while Paul van Meekeren claimed two for 30 from his allocation.

The Netherlands started strongly in their reply and reached 53 before Josh Davey came into the attack for the sixth over and struck twice.

However the Netherlands got themselves back into the game and at 95 for four the game seemed to be in the balance.

Van der Merwe then went for six, after which Josh Davey returned and struck twice at a crucial time of the innings putting Scotland back on top.

Entering the final over, the Netherlands still only required 10 runs, with two wickets remaining.

A wicket fell off the first ball and second ball Paul van Meekeren was run out, giving Scotland victory by seven runs.

Josh Davey ended with the impressive figures of four for 34 from four overs.

Scotland captain Kyle Coetzer said afterwards: “Good temperament from the bowlers, they really held it together. It was a great game of cricket.

"They’re the special games that you want to be part of and hopefully be on the winning side, which we were today.”
