TAUNTON Town have had plenty of big games this season, but this weekend’s Hereford game could well rival the Barrow FA cup tie for atmosphere and significance.

The Bulls visit the Viridor Stadium on Saturday (ko 3pm) having already been crowned champions, but they’ll no doubt be out for revenge after the Peacocks’ 2-1 win at Edgar Street.

Town were back on form last weekend, following two league defeats, as they swept aside fellow play-off contenders Mangotsfield United 6-1.

Manager Leigh Robinson said: “We were delighted to get back to the attacking purpose and intensity which has served us so well this year.

“When you lose two games it’s easy for players to retreat into their shell, but it was a good performance from everyone.”

The Peacocks sit second in the league standings but, with Tiverton Town and Salisbury breathing down their neck, they need to keep winning.

That’s no easy task with the table-topping Bulls coming into the Viridor china shop, but the hosts have a full squad available for the first time in a while.

Centre-back and aerial wonder Owen Irish returns from suspension, with fellow defender Matt Villis and striker Matt Wright both fit after injury.
Wright should prove a handy weapon this weekend, having scored in the reverse fixture.

Another one to watch is Ross Staley, facing his former side, who had a hand in five of his side’s six goals last time out.

Robinson added: “We take a bit more confidence from [the win at Hereford], but we had to be at our maximum to win and we need the same on Saturday.

“We’ve been fortunate with having large crowds this season, and we look forward to a big day in front of a big crowd.”

The attendance could well hit 1,200 – with Hereford having sold out their allocation – and fans should note that no tickets are being sold on Saturday.
