Webb Ellis Somerset RFU Under-14s Cup Final
Wellington 22, Midsomer Norton 22

THE final of the Somerset Under-14s Cup was played at Bridgwater & Albion, with Wellington RFC designated the home side against their Midsomer Norton opponents.

From the kick-off the game was played at a very fast pace with full commitment, power, pace and hard tackling from both sides.

With all 15 players working hard Wellington RFC used their advantage up front and went into an early 10-0 lead thanks to two unconverted tries from Tom Simms and Brandon Gledstone.

They seemed to be comfortable but Midsomer Norton came storming back, scoring three unanswered tries thanks to some great individual work by their threequarters.

Two of those tries were converted, and Midsomer also successfully kicked a penalty.

As the match moved in to the last quarter Midsomer were leading 22-10 and the cup seemed to be their for the taking.

Wellington, however, didn’t give up and inspired by their captain Tom Simms they started to work their way back into the game. With only seven minutes remaining Wellington scored another try through Will Davies, taking the score to 22-15.

It still seemed unlikely that Welly could respond again with only a little over three minutes remaining but some great forward driving play saw Wellington’s Jude Orszag-Land crash over to the left of the posts, making it 22-20.

This time Wellington’s conversion was successfully taken by Oli Kennedy, to level it up at 22-22.

Midsomer had one final opportunity to score down their left touchline but the Midsomer runner was stopped dead in his tracks by a very powerful tackle from Simms.

The lineout was taken and, with the next stop in play, the final whistle blew and, although equal on points, Wellington were declared the winners due to the superior number of tries scored.

This was an extremely entertaining and thrilling cup final and both teams can be proud of their performances.
