TAUNTON and Pickeridge’s Tom Sloman has been selected to represent England in the Dutch Junior Open at Toxandria Golf Club from July 19-22.

This honour follows the 20-year-old finishing as runner-up in the Irish Amateur Open and third place in the Darwin Salver, together with 10th and 14th places in two recent Welsh tournaments.

Phil Cook’s 43 stableford points in the recent Norman Oakley competition earned him a two-shot handicap cut and first place. Runners-up were Timothy Paris and Jon Hutt, both on 40.

In the Eric Wright Trophy, the winning team of Paul Timbury and Charlie Hooper amassed an amazing 46 points, four points clear of Roger Howard and Mark Coleman.

Alistair Johnston and Steve Coomber snapped up third place.

Tomorrow (Friday) sees the 26th running of T&P’s hugely popular Pro-Am tournament. Proceeds from the event will go towards the captain’s chosen charity, Alzheimer’s Society.

The Ladies’ Section took part in the Daily Mail Foursomes Medal on Tuesday, at the end of which it was Georgia Calvert and Ali McGown with a nett 70 who came out the winners.

Second place was won by Marion Mittermaier and Gill Shire with 72.

Third spot was claimed by Anne George and Marion Beranek with 73.5 on countback from Corinne Lyon and Angela Hollis who returned with the same score.

The winners of the T&PGC Daily Mail Foursomes Rose Bowl are Georgia Calvert and Ali McGown. They go forward to the 2018 Daily Mail Foursomes Tournament.

The 9-hole Stableford was won by Jackie Denton-Cox with 18 points, two ahead of Maureen Hailes on 16.

THE Musgrove Cup Pairs Golf Open Competition, in support of The League of Friends of Musgrove Park Hospital, will take place at Taunton & Pickeridge Golf Club on Friday, August 11. 

Over the last two years, in excess of £8,000 has been donated to The League of Friends from the event, and this year the proceeds raised will be put towards the purchase of a ‘Sensory Guru Magic Carpet’ projector. 

This uses more than 500 interactive apps to encourage children to carry out various activities to aid their recovery after treatment.

There are still some places available for this event, and bookings can be made through the club’s website using the link on the home page.

OAKE Manor Golf Club’s Seniors captain Mike Sheppard, playing with Ladies captain Patricia Brown, won the Jubilee Trophy, a mixed greensomes competition where the Oake Seniors play with the Ladies.

Coming in second were Jeff Copp, Seniors vice-captain, playing with Cathy Sheppard, with Tony Fulker and Barbara Cousins placing third.

Patricia Brown was nearest the pin on the 14th hole for the Ladies, and Trevor Cook was nearest the pin on the 10th hole for the men.

Mike Cottrell scored 41 points to win the midweek Stableford played on June 28.

Steve Manlow was second, also with 41 points, and Chris Falltrick came third with 40 points.

Rob Larcombe scored an incredible nett 63 to win the Eric Hood Medal played on Saturday, July 1. Second in Division 1 was Neil Mossman, with nett 64, and Phil Porter was third with nett 67.

Robert Cowburn won Division 2 with a score of nett 67, with Chris Rudd second on nett 70 and Keith Phillips third, also on nett 70.

On July 2, Peter Rabage scored 42 points to win the Sunday Stableford.

Gary Tillett came second with 41 points and Rob Larcombe third with 40 points.

Pam Akers won Division 1 in the Ladies Stableford.

Akers scored 37 points to beat Jenny Musgrove (36 points) into second, with Ginny Farnworth-Smith third on 35 points.

Pip Verge scored an excellent 40 points to win Division 2, coming in ahead of Julie Cross (also 40 points) in second and Mary Wood, in third with 35 points.
