SOMERSET'S Anya Shrubsole took six wickets as England pulled off a terrific fightback to beat India and claim their fourth Women's Cricket World Cup.

The Bath-born seamer, who also represents Western Storm, took 6-46 - the best ever figures in a World Cup final - as the host nation won by nine runs at Lord's.

England made a solid start, only to lose both openers in quick succession, and they were reliant on Sarah Taylor (45), Nat Sciver (51) and Katherine Brunt (34) - as well as the eighth-wicket pairing of Jenny Gunn (25no) and Laura Marsh (14no) - as they reached 228-7.

Jhulan Goswami took 3-23 off 10 overs and Poonam Yadav 2-36 off 10 to give India a winnable target.

Shrubsole - who had scored the winning runs in the semi-final with South Africa - drew blood early by bowling Smriti Mandhana for a duck.

But Punam Raut scored 86 as India reached 191-3, and they looked favourites for victory with 39 needed from the last 33 balls.

Step forward vice-captain Shrubsole, who trapped Raut lbw and then dismissed Veda Krishnamurthy (35) and Jhulan Goswami (0).

Still India only needed 11 to win with three wickets in hand, but Shrubsole combined with Taylor to have Shikha Pandey (4) run out at 218-8.

Her fifth wicket came when Deepti Sharma (14) was caught by Sciver, and she then clean bowled Rajeshwari Gayakwad (0) to spark the celebrations.
