Pre-season friendly
Taunton Town 0, Weymouth 1

CHARLIE Davis scored the only goal of the night as 10-man Taunton Town lost out to Weymouth in their third pre-season friendly.

Davis gave the visitors the lead shortly before half time, and after Peacocks substitute Ben Adelsbury saw red the Terras comfortably saw the game out.

The hosts began with a back three of Arran Pugh, Chris McGrath and Matt Villis, with Les Afful and Joe Charles supporting Matt Wright up front.

Both sides were missing fluency in the first half, but Weymouth - who play in the Southern League Premier, one division higher than Taunton - were beginning to gain the upper hand as the interval beckoned.

Home goalkeeper Lloyd Irish made a couple of good saves from Harry Baker and Davis, but could do nothing about the latter's 41st-minute strike after a cross from the right was not adequately cleared.

The Peacocks began the second half well and Pugh saw a header from a Ryan Brett corner bounce down and narrowly over the bar, but the hosts were forced to play the last 30 minutes with 10 men after the referee sent off half-time substitute Adelsbury for foul language.

The Terras were content to pass the ball around as Taunton dropped off, but they would have added to their lead were it not for a super double save from Irish - denying Aaron Rodriguez and then Baker on the rebound.

There was to be no late heroics from the hosts, who looked rusty, but will certainly have profited in terms of fitness against a quality side who matched them physically and aerially.

Taunton Town: Lloyd Irish, Pierce Mitchell, Ryan Brett, Arran Pugh, Chris McGrath (Ben Adelsbury 46), Matt Villis, Shane White, Brett Trowbridge (Ollie Chamberlain 61), Matt Wright (Ryan Burrows 76), Les Afful (Craig Duff 61), Joe Charles (Ross Staley 61).
