A FINE all round performance from Somerset's Mark Turner was the catalyst for Taunton St Andrews' fine win away to Bath in Premier One, in one of their best performances for many years.

The win takes Saints to fourth in the table but, in this most competitive of seasons, thoughts of a challenge for the title are just as likely to be followed by thoughts of relegation.

Arriving at the picturesque but slightly damp North Parade ground in the centre of Bath, it was no surprise when skipper Kev Parsons lost the toss and was invited to bat by counterpart Mark Thorburn.

This was especially true as Thorburn himself opens the bowling and knew that there would be life in the wicket.

He would have been disappointed though as Saints made steady progress to 30 before they lost Brian Hoyle, lbw to Tom Stayt (3-41).

Mike Burns was quickly bowled by the same bowler for two, and Martin Jenkins (28) was lbw to the skipper leaving the innings at 50-3 and in the balance.

Kevin Parsons and Paul Lawrence tried to rebuild only to both fall in quick succession and leave the innings in trouble at 83-5.

Dixon Walsh man of the match, Mark Turner (69 not out), found a good ally in Gareth Parsons (21) and they posted a fifty partnership at a run a ball.

As wickets continued to fall, Turner farmed the strike to good effect and the innings closed at 198 all out, Turner's runs coming off just 74 balls.

Stuart Priscott (4-18) was the most successful bowler, removing the tail.

With the ball, Turner was no less destructive, taking 4-44, including both openers caught at slip by Kevin Parsons, to leave Bath at 18-2.

Somerset's Robin Lett (26) and Chris Gange (35) threatened a revival before Lett was bowled by Lloyd Alley who took 3-9 in six accurate overs.

With Mike Parsons (3-26 from 11) also in fine form, Bath quickly subsided to 103 all out.

Turner fittingly had returned to take the final wicket and he had dominated the day.
