CONGRATULATIONS to Oake Manor Juniors on winning the Somerset County Juniors Development League. 

The team continued their winning ways in the final match of the season at Taunton & Pickeridge Golf Club. 

Junior Captain Tom Cornish led the way with a sound performance, while Brian Louis and Freddie Elgin both scored 37 points off handicaps of 24 & 27 to finish second and third out of 12 in the individual rankings. 

Ben Thompson, playing in the last group off his new handicap of 30, managed an impressive 40 points and finished second in the individual rankings. 

In earlier rounds both Calum Pinn and Cameron Pinn, along with Charlie Sharland, made important contributions to the team’s success.

John Byrne and Shane Bordier won the Cob & Pen Trophy in the August Bank Holiday Mixed Greensomes Competition after scoring 44 points.

Graham and Kathy Salway were second with 42 points, Andrew Gadd and Ros Wills were third with 41 points and Mike and Liz How were fourth with 40 points. 

Nearest the pin in two shots on the ninth hole were Colin and Sue Corlett, while Graham Salway was nearest the pin on the 10th hole for the men and Rosemary Webber was nearest the pin on the 16th for the Ladies.

Peter Gedge won Division 1 of the Seniors Stableford with 37 points ahead of second-placed Colin Brown with 35 points, Raymond Dawe in third also with 35 points and Nigel Haigh, who was fourth with 34 points.

David Haliday was Division 2 winner with 37 points, one point ahead of Howard Spear in second, while Peter Welsh finished third with 35 points and Peter Eele was fourth, also with 35 points.

Michael Bright, with 40 points, won Division 1 of the Men’s Saturday Stableford.

Greg Scribbins was second, also with 40 points, and Brian Thomas third with 38 points. 

Charles Hardman was Division 2 winner with 43 points, the best score of the day. 

Frank Gregory came second with 42 points and Ray Dakers third with 40 points.

Greg Scribbins won Division 1 of the Men’s Sunday Medal with a nett 64, Phil Porter was second with 67 and Michael Bright third with 68. 

Guy Backhouse won Division 2 with nett 64, Mike Osguthorpe was second with 70 and Lionel Warren third on 72.

Kathy Salway was the clear winner of the Ladies Weekend Medal with a nett 71, Jane Clist was second with nett 74 and Natalie Lawrence third with nett 76.

Steve Manlow won the Wednesday Midweek Stableford competiton with 41 points.

Nicholas Fry came second with 40 points and Glyn Pearce third with 39 points.

IN great conditions on Saturday, 132 golfers took part in the 2017 Yellow Ball Competition at Taunton & Pickeridge Golf Club.

The winners were Bob Irish, Lawrence Leader, Mark Langford and Matt Gaskin with a score of 158.

On Tuesday, the T&P 125 Ladies’ Invitation took place involving 48 participants - 24 members and 24 visitors. 

The Power Play (risk and reward for playing to the harder of the two flag positions) format on three selected holes meant some high scores were returned.

Jacky Ford and Gin Stewart-Burnett claimed first with 51 points but only after countback put them ahead of Gill Shire and Karin Potter.

Jackie Pike and Diane Dee were third with 48, two ahead of Lennox Heath and Chris Hannam, who claimed fourth on countback with 46.

The best front nine was won by Heather Crump and Chris Collins with 24, while the best back nine was claimed by Jenny Bevan and Liz Stevens with 26 on countback.

Nearest the Pin (Silver) was Katie Guest while, in the Bronze, it was Karin Potter.

The Juniors Monday Night competition was won by Bailey Langford with 36 ahead, on countback, of Kyle Miller. 

Charlie Hooper claimed third with 31, while Freddie Eglin was fourth on 26.
