National 2 South
Old Redcliffians 10, Taunton Titans 48

TAUNTON Titans made it two wins from two to start the 2017/18 season, as they picked up an emphatic victory at Old Redcliffians.

This was Old Reds' first home game in National 2 South and at half time they were in the game, but unfortunately for them they fell away in the second half, as the Titans ran in five tries in the last 20 minutes of the game.

With the home side playing down the slope it was the visitors who scored first, when winger Aron Struminski used his pace to outrun the defence to score under the posts.

Gary Kingdom converted and then went over for a try himself to open up a 12-0 lead.

Old Reds then scored their first home try of the season, when winger Henry Bird capitalised on a Titans knock on and went in under the posts.

Fly-half Ashley Groves converted to close the gap to five points and that is how it stayed until half time, even though Old Reds had two in the bin when the whistle went.

Taunton couldn’t have started the second half any better, as from the kick-off flanker Dan Frost made a clean break and put Struminski in for his second try of the game.

This seemed to deflate the home side but they did manage to close the gap once again with a penalty through Groves, before the Titans ran in a further five tries.

First over for the Titans was flanker Frost, who then went over for his second just three minutes later.

This was followed by tries for Brett Harvey and Ollie Rice, both claiming their second tries in two games.

The last try of the game was on the final whistle, with Frost claiming his hat-trick try.

With Kingdom converting three of the five it made the final score 48-10 to the Titans.
