FA Vase first qualifying round
Wellington 3, Wells City 1

WELLINGTON marked their first home game of the season with a 3-1 victory over Wells City, avenging their earlier loss to the same opponents in the league.

The hosts dominated the first half in particular, and went into a 2-0 lead thanks to Glen Wright and Joe Chamberlain, the latter heading in Tim Legg's cross.

Wright then scored his second, before Harry Davidson scored a late consolation goal.

Wellington - for whom Ian Bellinger was man of the match - will now face Clevedon Town, away on September 23, in the second qualifying round.

FA Vase first qualifying round
St Austell 9, Bishops Lydeard 1

BISHOPS Lydeard were unable to join Wellington in the next round, as they were hammered 9-1 by St Austell.

Mark Goldsworthy, Martin Watts and Liam Eddy put the home side into a 3-1 lead, before Zac Ryder pulled one back with a lob over the goalkeeper.

There was to be no great comeback, though, as Chris Reski scored a penalty and Rob Wearne snared a brace to make it 6-1.

Further goals from Eddy, Kirk Davies and Jordan Dingle completed a miserable afternoon for Lydeard.
