TAUNTON’s Whirlwinds national trampoline team competed in the National League qualifier at Birmingham University at the weekend.

This competition is unlike any other and has been created ‘by the clubs for the clubs’, rather than British Gymnastics.

It is sponsored by Flipout Trampoline Park and has grown to become the most-attended competition in the country, with entries from as far as Scotland and Northern Ireland.

The Whirlwinds national trampoline and double mini trampoline team were: Connor White (11-12), Lily Hughes (11-12), Samia Sidhu (11-12), Ella Ray (11-12), Lucy Morton (15-16), Jasmin Uminski (17-18), Hope Reynolds (17-18) and Emily Stewart (17-18).

They enjoyed a very successful weekend, with White coming home with a double gold, performing excellent routines in trampoline and DMT.

Morton came fourth out of a massive group of 63 competitors in trampoline and gained a silver medal in DMT, while Hughes also achieved 14th place in trampoline out of 54 in her group.

Everyone completed their routines, with many scoring personal best results in what was a highly skilled and very large field of competitors.

National coach Jacob Turner said: “I am immensely proud of the team as everyone achieved a personal aim.

“For some, this was their first national level competition and others performed their biggest skills in routines so far.

“Many performers are aiming to reach national league finals in December; the team is now inspired by their success and will continue to work hard in preparation for future competitions.”

The final will be held at the Olympic Park, in London, in December.
