Evo-Stik South West

Didcot Town 0, Taunton Town 4

TAUNTON Town stretched their lead at the top of Evo-Stik South West to five points after captain Matt Wright's brace helped them to a 4-0 win at Didcot Town.

In their first match after the shock midweek departure of Owen Irish to local rivals Tiverton, Wright's brace followed earlier goals from Dan Sullivan and Ollie Chamberlain on a comfortable afternoon in Oxfordshire.

Chris McGrath was drafted into the backline by manager Leigh Robinson, who also handed Matt Buse made his first league start since his return from Gosport, and the visitors were in the lead after just seven minutes.

The breakthrough came courtesy of Sullivan, who has impressed since signing from Tavistock and kept his cool to find the bottom corner and hand his side an early advantage.

The same player nearly made it two before the break and Wright also came close with a header, but the lead stayed at the solitary goal going into half-time.

As ever with a 1-0 lead the next goal was going to be crucial, and it was Taunton who got it as Chamberlain headed home Pierce Mitchell's cross just after the hour mark.

It was three moments later as Wright found the net from Ryan Brett's corner, and the frontman doubled his personal tally 13 minutes from time when he volleyed Sullivan's cross past the goalkeeper.

Buse nearly added further gloss to the scoreline late on but saw his effort well saved, and the Peacocks were rarely troubled at the other end during a routine victory.

Bristol Manor Farm's defeat at fellow high-flyers Swindon Supermarine saw Salisbury climb to second, five points adrift of the in-form Peacocks, who are now 10 games unbeaten ahead of Tuesday evening's trip to Barnstaple Town in the BigFreeBet.Com Challenge Cup.
