TAUNTON’S Pawel Augustynik made a successful return to the ring with an emphatic victory over Lithuanian Remigijus Ziausys in Weston-super-Mare’s Winter Gardens on Saturday, writes Marc Gatford.

The former English amateur champion eased past Ziausys over four rounds at light heavyweight to maintain a perfect start in the professional ranks.

Augustynik, keen to impress his growing fan base, began brightly, offloading a variety of eye catching combinations.

His experienced opponent, who went the distance with top heavyweight’s Dereck Chisora and Dillian Whyte, tried to take the centre of the ring but was repeatedly driven back by the younger man.

Once backed up, Augustynik unleashed an accurate repertoire of hooks and uppercuts full of snap to keep his man at bay.

The veteran used all of his experience to survive and landed a couple right hands of his own, but was ultimately outgunned.

The humble Pole, who personally thanked each member of his travelling support, said afterwards: “I massively appreciate everyone who comes out for me, it drives me to perform. 2018 will be an exciting year for me.”
