Friendly match
Somerset Wyverns 32, Aberystwyth Tarannau 0

SOMERSET Wyverns played host to Aberystwyth Tarannau at Victoria Park on Saturday, for their final game of the season.

The Wyverns kicked off first, meaning the first drive of the game was dealt with by the hosts' defence, who - thanks to Scott Savage - opened the scoring with a sack in the end zone, resulting in a safety and the Wyverns going 2-0 up.

Then it was the turn of the offence, who immediately got their run game under way and scored a quick touchdown thanks to Ross Owen.

This was followed on the next drive by Tom Golden combining with Rowan Symonds for a touchdown and a two-point conversion, putting the Wyverns 16-0 ahead.

The defence had their chance to shine again soon after, scoring another safety thanks to Matt McShondie, and the Wyverns led 18-0 at the end of the first quarter.

The scoring calmed down a little after that, although the second quarter did see another touchdown for Owen and another safety from the defence, this time thanks to Mark Monk.

The Wyverns ended the first half with a 26-0 advantage.

The home side used this opportunity to give game time to their many rookies, in a scoreless third period.

The fourth quarter also looked as though it was going to finish blank, as it was still 26-0 at the two-minute warning.

Not long afterwards, though, an outside run from Owen found the end zone for his third touchdown of the game.

The final score was 32-0, and the Wyverns are hoping that it will be enough to gain entrance to the national leagues next season, having submitted the paperwork to the British American Football Association and expecting a decision towards the end of the year.

If you want to get involved in the club, the Wyverns are holding their second 'Rookie Camp' throughout December.
