Regional League 3 South
Vivary 28, Exeter 57

WITH Exeter sitting at the top of the table, Taunton’s Vivary anticipated a tough game.

Despite a strong second quarter from Vivary, bringing the score within five goals, they lost their flow in the third period and Exeter pulled away to a comfortable win.

Somerset Premier Division
Abbey 47, Tone 52

THE game started very evenly, and Tone finished the first quarter leading by one goal (12-11).

Tone extended their lead to 25-22 by half time, after which the Tone defence gave Abbey’s shooters a very difficult time, winning many of the overhead passes into the attack and forcing errors and turnovers (41-31).

Tone managed to let their lead slip to within two goals with minutes to go, but managed to pull through, staying calm and level-headed to secure the win.

It was a fantastic end to finish Tone’s last match of 2017, followed by a farewell meal for squad member Ashlee Dale, who returns to Australia soon.

Somerset Division 1
Sydenham 39, Monmouth 42

MONMOUTH travelled to play top of the table Sydenham Sapphires.

The visitors set the tone by breaking Sapphires’ first centre pass, and confident play gave Monmouth a 10-8 lead.

The second quarter saw Sapphires settle into a determined rhythm, and wonderful attacking phases took them into the lead.

The third quarter was fast paced and high scoring, and Sapphires demonstrated determination and immaculate shooting to pull 32-27 ahead.

Monmouth came out determined to pull the game back, and they gained a five-point lead and held on to win.

Monmouth have a lot to be proud of as a team after fantastic play and fine defence.

Regional League 2
Jupiter 31, Trident 70

GALMINGTON Trident visited Bridgwater Jupiter for a game they really had to win by a big score.

Good defensive teamwork throughout the court made it really hard for Jupiter, and Charlotte Hooper-Bleeks found easy pickings feeding the ball into the shooting circle, ably supported by Nicola Ferguson (C).

Jordyn Baker shot well, supported by Nicky Towell and Ellie-May Vohra, while Juste Mockeliunaite (WD) and Jaz Chester (GD) put a wall in front of the D to allow Sharon Chester (GK) to intercept.

Trident were relentless, spurred on to build a big score and not let Jupiter pick up a bonus point, and it was a good way to finish before Christmas.
