Regional League 3
Cornwall Saints 43, Taunton Vivary 50

TAUNTON Vivary travelled to play top-of-the-table Cornwall Saints on Saturday.

Having lost by just one goal in their previous encounter, Vivary were expecting a challenging game and Saints did not disappoint.

Vivary started well, scoring from their first centre then turning over Saints’ first centre and scoring from that, too, going on to take the first quarter 14-11.

Vivary pulled away to reach half-time leading 30-17.

Saints enjoyed an evenly matched third quarter but Vivary pressured every pass to keep their lead and secure the win.

POM was Lauren-Jade Griffiths; opposition’s POM was Isla May. The squad: Fee Grammer, Emily Tong, Becca Holder, Lauren Knight, Faye Symons, Isla May, Freya Bryant, Lauren-Jade Griffiths and Gracie Stevens.

Swans 34, Tone 44

TONE travelled to Wells and the home side took an early 11-9 lead.
Tone hit back and, by half-time, had turned the game around to lead 19-16.

Going into the third quarter with a few changes, Tone continued with confidence, not letting Swans disrupt their play, extending their lead to 33-24.

They never looked back and won by a convincing margin.

POM was Freya Bryant. The squad: Vicki Cornish, Leila Aladin, Freya Bryant, Hannah Robins, Kim Tong, Meg Palmer, Ria Binding, Lucy Monk.

Somerset Division 2
Reckleford 23, Priory 49

PRIORY started slowly, letting Reckleford gain a four-goal lead within minutes, but upped the pace to take a first quarter lead.

The second quarter saw Tina Follett come on at WA, and she helped Priory build on their lead to enter half-time 25-13 up.

The third quarter was a super defensive quarter for Priory, with Ffion Watkins at WD plucking several balls off the edge of the circle.

GK Linda Holder and GD Amy Toole minimised Reckleford’s goals to just five and Becca Holder’s reintroduction ensured an impressive win.

POMs were Linda Holder and Kate Durbin. The squad: GS Lucy Cox, GA Maisie Reynolds, WA Becca Holder/Tina Follett, C Kate Durbin, WD Ffion Watkins, GD Amy Toole, GK Linda Holder.

Somerset Division 3
Thorns 26, Brendon 11

BRENDON travelled to Glastonbury and were trailing 9-0 by the first break.

Thorns defended well and when the ball went up the court it just didn’t find its way into the net.

Brendon improved after half-time, reducing the arrears, but Thorns upped their game and restricted the visitors to two goals in the final quarter.

POM was Charlotte O’Leary. The squad: GS Beth Lacy, GA Maddie Borer, WA Millie Jay, C Charlotte O’Leary, WD Denise Evely, GD Trish Hutchinson, GK Libby Binding/Emma Burns.

South West Regional League 2
Crossbow 67, Galmington Trident 46

TRIDENT travelled to Bristol to face league leaders Crossbow on Saturday.

The visitors started off tentatively but found their rhythm by the end of the first quarter, trailing 15-10.

Changes were made in the second quarter and Trident found their confidence, with their attack dominant and the defence contesting every ball, making the half-time score 31-29 to them.

Crossbow, not used to being behind, brought on new legs and showed why they’re the league leaders by pulling ahead in the second half, despite the best efforts of players of the match Laura Phelps (in centre court) and Jaz Chester (at GD).

As always, the Galmington girls were still smiling at the end after a good team display.
