The big day is upon us at Cheltenham after a mixed week so far - the first two days went well but yesterday was all over the shop from a tipping point of view.
We will hope for better today, starting with...
1.30 - JCB Triumph Hurdle - Nicky Henderson's Apple's Shakira (11/8) is the big early favourite, but Redicean (5/1) is undefeated over jumps and comfortably won a Grade 2 at Kempton recently - Wayne Hutchinson can help the prospect deal with the step up in class.
2.10 - Randox Health County Handicap Hurdle - This one is gloriously open, with 25 running and a favourite out at 8/1.
An each-way shot may be your best bet unless you're feeling particularly brave (Bet365 are paying out six places), and David Pipe's Moon Racer (16/1) won the Champion Bumper here in 2015 and should be in contention today.
2.50 - Albert Bartlett Novices' Hurdle - Another large field, with 20 set to run, albeit with a shorter-priced favourite in Santini (7/2).
Paisley Park (25/1) looks a good shout for a place, having shown potential at Warwick recently.
3.30 - Timico Cheltenham Gold Cup - The champagne meet of the festival is difficult to pick a winner in this year, but I like the look of Road to Respect (12/1), who is improving all the time and has to be taken seriously against the favourites.
Here at Gazette HQ we received an anonymous tip for locally trained American (33/1) yesterday, so there's your each-way shout.
4.10 - St James's Place Foxhunter Chase - Three to keep an eye on here among another large field - Colin Tizzard's Grand Vision (16/1) comes into this in good form, Paul Nicholls' Unioniste (18/1) has won his last two comfortably and Barel of Laughs (28/1) came third in this race last year having gone off at 100/1.
4.50 - Martin Pipe Conditional Jockeys' Handicap Hurdle - Having shown early promise over hurdles with consecutive wins, Early Doors (10/1) has dropped off a bit of late but certainly has the potential to go well in his first handicap.
Mr Big Shot (16/1) has won well on all three of his starts so far - can he deal with the upturn in class?
5.30 - Johnny Henderson Grand Annual Challenge Cup Handicap Chase - The Festival concludes at 5.30 with some big names lining up to feature.
One of them, Vaniteux (16/1) was earmarked by David Pipe as one of his best hopes for a winner, while Rock the World (16/1) came third in this race two years ago and won it last year.
