Somerset Premier Division
Tone 61, Kestrels 35

TAUNTON’s Tone hosted Keinton Mandeville’s Kestrels in a midweek fixture, winning 61-35.

The game started off closely-fought, but with lots of errors from both sides Tone ended up with a three-goal advantage at the first break.

Tone got into their pace in the second quarter and pulled away, as with lots of good turnovers from the defence and good shooting they finished the first half 30-18 ahead.

Some changes to the team did not affect Tone’s flow of play as they continued to pull ahead and put the pressure on Kestrels.

Tone’s support throughout the court allowed them to end the quarter ahead 44-29.

The hosts went all out in the final quarter with intensity and commitment to the ball, wanting to add another large win to their large collection.

Every Toner demonstrated skilled netball and teamwork, helping them to secure their win.

Somerset Division 1
Monmouth 47, Wyndham 40

MONMOUTH played top of the table Wyndham, from Yeovil, and triumphed 47-40.

The Taunton team knew it would be a tough game but worked hard in the first quarter to get ahead 13-7.

The second quarter saw lots of good teamwork and play with great movement of the ball down the court into the shooting circle, where Helen (GS) and Jade (GA) were barely missing a goal (24-18).

Monmouth’s third quarter was their best, as they continued to turn over balls and pick up loose balls to pull away (37-29).

As Monmouth were ahead they decided to play it safe and keep possession of the ball to secure the well deserved win, as they had worked extremely well together.

Somerset KO Cup semi-final
Priory 33, Bishops 53

PRIORY met Wells’ Bishops for a place in the KO Cup final, but they lost 53-33.

With Bishops currently top of the Division 2 table and Priory in mid-table, this match was always going to be a challenge for the Taunton side.

It was a strong start from both teams, but Bishops capitalised on some Priory errors to end the first quarter ahead 16-9.

Accurate and consistent shooting from Bishops’ GA and GS, gaining in confidence as the match progressed, saw their team pull away in the second quarter (30-17).

The third quarter was Priory’s strongest, but it was not quite enough to rein in Bishops (42-27).

Priory never gave up, giving their all right the way through the match, but Bishops were too strong.

Somerset Division 2
Kites 51, Blackdown 52

BLACKDOWN travelled to play Keinton Mandeville’s Kites in the second flight, edging the match 52-51.

The first quarter saw both Blackdown and Kites shoot with accuracy and defend well, ending with Kites just taking the lead, 12-11.

Blackdown settled into the game in the second quarter, intercepting and rebounding some loose balls to convert them to goal (26-24).

In the third quarter, Blackdown got into a good rhythm and moved the ball around the court well, feeding the ball into the shooters with good accuracy (41-36).

The fourth and final quarter saw both teams feed well into the shooters, as Blackdown tried to protect the ball as much as possible but Kites intercepted and converted their mistakes.

The final score was close but Blackdown just about held on to secure the win!

FINALE: Galmington played - and won - their last Regional League 1 match of the season.

Regional League 2
Trident 37, Babylon 53

IT wasn’t meant to be for Trident, who met Babylon of Yeovil in their final fixture of Regional League 2.

Despite the might of a combined Trident and Hovelands squad, and some excellent passages of play, they were forced into errors by a determined Babylon team.

Player of the match Jaz Chester disrupted the Babylon attack in what was her last game in a Galmington dress, before heading off to university.

Hovelands players slotted in seamlessly and gave a mighty performance in their second game of the day.

Trident now head into the unknown of a potential playoff to try and secure their place in League 2 for next season, so their fate is very much in the balance.

Hovelands 58, Abbey 44

HOVELANDS commenced battle against Abbey of Glastonbury on Saturday.

It was a physical game, as match day report writer and player of the match Polly Ridgway obviously needed time to give her account of the match.

Ultimately the Galmington side managed to do enough to make it through to the Somerset KO Cup final, which will be played on Saturday, May 12 at Taunton Vale.

Somerset Division 2
Queensway 39, Reckleford 27

QUEENSWAY continued with their new-found form, taking the victory over Yeovil side Reckleford at Vale.

The sun was shining on the queens who, following in the footsteps of the mighty Roses, secured a fine result.

There was a strong defending team out with some amazing interceptions and rebounds from player of the match Carol Manning, who made it very difficult for the opposition shooters.

Eve and Carol held firm in defence, with the match even at half time, 17-17.

Queensway stepped it up a gear with some excellent tips and turnovers both in defence and attack, moving 26-23 ahead.

The final quarter saw the whole team shine with excellent centre court play and strong attacking play.

They pulled ahead and finished the game 12 up after an excellent all-round effort and determined attitude.
