SOMERSET all-rounder Lewis Gregory has responded to speculation linking him with a move away from the club by insisting he is happy at the County Ground.

The 25-year-old is in the final year of his deal and, as such, can be approached under a 28-day notice by another county while his new deal at Somerset remains pending.

Rumours spread from a members' Q&A at the close of play on day one of the County Championship match against Worcestershire that another county had made such an approach, but Gregory responded with surprise when the topic came up after Somerset's victory.

"That's news to me - I've heard nothing from anyone," he said.

"This is a club I'm extremely passionate about, I enjoy playing my cricket here and it's a fabulous group of guys.

"We will see what happens over the coming months."

Head coach Jason Kerr added: "There is a contract on offer and Lewis would like some time to consider it, which is fine.

"It is inevitable that clubs would be interested in a player of Lewis' calibre - he's a fantastic cricketer.

"As far as we are concerned, however, there has been no official approach."

Gregory took seven wickets in the match as Somerset won their opening fixture for the first time since 2012.

Somerset are still awaiting the results of tests to determine the severity of Jamie Overton's injury, while Eddie Byrom has been sent for a scan after suffering a dislocated shoulder while fielding on day three.
