IT was a huge week in the Keyline Taunton Sunday League, with cup finals played out and division titles decided, writes Dave Whelan.

Hamilton FC retained the Somerset FA Sunday Challenge Cup, beating favourites Kingsmead FC 1-0 at Wells FC last Friday night.

Their status as underdogs was compounded when Owen Lindsey was sent off for a bad tackle after just 34 seconds.

The odds were stacked against them, but they scored the only goal of the game courtesy of a practised corner routine in the 34th minute, Andrius Miliskevicius heading home.

The expected onslaught never really came and Hamilton claimed back-to-back titles.

Two great goals and two world-class saves helped Ash Rangers beat Castlemoat Albion 2-1 in the Keyline Cup final last Wednesday.

Ash started well and deservedly took the lead in the 15th minute, as Lee Hellier hit a stunning drive from 25 yards.

That woke Moat up, and Charlie Wilson found the top corner from a free-kick to equalise.

But Ash were back ahead when Joe Greenwood took advantage of a defensive mix-up to deftly lob home.

A superb save from Ash keeper Dan Whitby kept his side 2-1 up at the break, and they held on to lift to cup for a third time, after a goal-line clearance and another brilliant stop from Whitby kept Moat out.

WINNERS: Ash Rangers with the Keyline Cup trophy

The Mike Whitehead Cup went to Mariners, 4-1 winners over Watchet Town Blue Waves.

RETURNING to league action, Hamilton were back on the field on Sunday, this time in pursuit of the Division 1 title.

But opponents Castlemoat were also well in the hunt and had much longer to recover from their midweek game, running out 7-1 winners.

Moat’s goals were shared out between Lewis Waldy (2), Ross Burford, Charlie Cooke, Cahal Robertson, Nick Izzard and a cracking volley from Josh Wadham.

The win kept Moat just one point behind Bathpool going into last (Wednesday) night’s games.

Bathpool had a good win at Old Inn, 4-0, as James Weaver, Joe Jones, James Garad and an own goal saw them home.

Tiger Old Boys have won Division 3, beating Taunton Warriors 29-1.
Ian Bellinger scored his 96th goal of the season as he scored 13, Carl Jones added 10 more, Joe Elgar scored two, and Cory McKay, Jake Adey, Joe Edgar and Wayne Trapnell all netted one apiece.

Staplegrove only lost out on the title on goal difference, their last league game a 16-0 win at Norton.
