Somerset Upper Cup final
Hovelands 57, Swans 24

FAST and furious Hovelands are now double champions, as they added the Somerset Cup to their trophy cabinet having already picked up the Somerset League title.

And what a team performance it was, as they overcame Wells Swans 57-24.

The defensive unit of Hannah Symes, Polly Ridgway and Laura Preece continued their solid work as a trio, dominating the play with almost 50 tips, interceptions and rebounds.

Centre court players Kelly Sully and Charlotte HB linked tirelessly and seamlessly with Nicki Berzina and Daisy West, whose pinpoint shooting led Hovelands to a memorable victory.

The girls were joined by Philip Pepperell, proud sponsor of Hovelands for the 2017/18 season, and the girls’ number one fan.

And, just like that, a perfect season for Hovelands is almost over.

This coming weekend, they head for Regional League 3 play-offs, hoping to add promotion to their achievements this campaign.

THE success did not end there for Galmington, as Parkfield, Queensway and Newbarn all took to the court to compete in the Somerset League Tournament.

It turns out that six-minute halves could be the future and the key to Galmington’s success, as Newbarn and Queensway finished second and third, respectively.

A great time was had by all and there were lots to smile about, with mother/daughter combinations, junior players, more seasoned players and back to netball players coming together to represent the club.

Galmington also managed to raise a combined total of £210 with members of Taunton Netball Club through a joint cake sale.
