THIS month sees Somerset Road Club stage the ‘Peter Sandy Memorial Road Race’, in honour of a local cycling legend.
Sandy was president of Somerset RC, having revived the struggling club 40 years ago.
A popular figure, he was a successful racer in the South West and beyond, claiming top six finishes in almost 100 races between 1977 and 1987.
He passed away at the age of 87, on June 13, 2017.
To pay tribute to a man who inspired so many, Somerset RC are running an event on Sunday, June 17, 2018, and are still looking for entrants to sign up.
The 70-mile road race (National B E/1/2/3) starts from Uffculme in Devon, and goes via Culmstock, Nicholas Hayne, and the long White Ball Hill before heading back to Uffculme.
The event will see riders do 10 laps of the circuit.
There are prizes for all categories, and organisers have applied for an extension so that entries will be right up to the event day.
To enter, go to www.britishcycling.org.uk and search for 'Peter Sandy Memorial Road Race'.
