SOMERSET spinner Jack Leach says he "can't wait to get going again" after being named in the squad for the crunch County Championship clash at Surrey.

Five weeks on from the broken thumb which ruled him out of England's Test series with Pakistan and Somerset's Championship victory over Nottinghamshire, Leach is back in time to play his part as the top two in Division One go head-to-head.

Leach told the County Gazette: "My recovery has gone well. I was expected to be out between four and six weeks so I'm pretty much bang on schedule, though if anything I'm ahead of schedule in terms of being ready for a match.

"I started bowling against last week and I feel the fittest I've ever been. I've done a lot of work with [strength and conditioning coaches] Joel Tratt and James Alway and I've tried to use the time wisely.

"It's given me time to reflect on where I want my game to go and I feel my bowling is moving in a good direction.

"There have been some darker moments along the way but it is important to focus on what's to come.

"The lower moments are all part of it so you have to ride those waves.

"I did watch some of the Tests, as well as putting work in at the gym and watching the lads here at Somerset - I really enjoyed our win over Notts."

Leach could potentially play in three Championship matches before England's Test series against India begins on August 1, but the 26-year-old insists he is not thinking that far ahead.

"I'm concentrating on Somerset in these next few weeks and hopefully helping us get some more wins on the board," he said.

"We're going really well as a side at the moment and I'm excited to see how far we can go.

"We have two massive games coming up [Somerset travel to Essex for next Monday] but, to be honest, every game feels like a cup final."

Somerset are without Craig Overton, who is on England Lions duty, while Surrey are missing Ben Foakes and Sam Curran for the same reason.

Tim Groenewald and Jamie Overton are in contention to replace the seamer in the Somerset side.

Somerset go into the match a point above their opponents and are all set for a first trip to Guildford since 2006, when Justin Langer broke the all-time Somerset batting record by scoring 342.

Somerset squad to face Surrey: Tom Abell (capt), George Bartlett, Dom Bess, Eddie Byrom, Josh Davey, Steve Davies, Lewis Gregory, Tim Groenewald, James Hildreth, Jack Leach, Jamie Overton, Matt Renshaw and Roelof van der Merwe.
