JOS Buttler scored an outstanding century as England fought back against the odds to secure a first ever 5-0 whitewash over Australia.

The Taunton-born batsman scored 110 not out as England recovered from 50-5 and 114-8 to overhaul Australia's total of 206 in the fifth one-day international at Old Trafford.

Buttler and Adil Rashid put together a ninth-wicket stand of 81, and although Rashid was dismissed with 11 still required, Buttler hit the next ball for six to complete his sixth ODI century.

Joined by Jake Ball, Buttler finished the job to see England home by one wicket and with nine balls to spare.

Seamer Craig Overton was ruled out of the match due to "side soreness", and so he will return to Somerset for a scan tomorrow.

Tomorrow also sees Somerset resume their County Championship challenge, looking to bounce back from their heavy defeat to Surrey with a match at reigning champions Essex.
