TAUNTON Deane ladies played at Castle Cary in the final of the Southey Trophy.

After beating Westlands, Castle Cary, Minehead and last year’s winners, St Andrews, the Deane were up against strong opposition from Bath Bowling Club.

An enthusiastic crowd of supporters enjoyed some excellent bowling on all rinks, despite a worrying pall of black smoke drifting over the green from a large industrial fire nearby!

Chenda Harris got the Deane ladies off to a good start with a 21-4 victory in the singles game.

The pairing of Imogen Cracknell and Joan Jenkins also started strongly in the pairs and continued their good form to win 22-16.

The triples and fours were closely matched throughout the afternoon, with the triples just edging ahead by one shot on the last end and the fours also winning to make it a clean sweep for the Taunton Deane ladies.
