SOMERSET batsman Marcus Trescothick is set for a return to action with the club's Second XI tomorrow (Wednesday) as he steps up his recovery from a broken metatarsal.

The 42-year-old has not played since sustaining the injury en route to a century against Lancashire at Old Trafford on May 4, and was orgininally targeting the set of Championship matches beginning in mid-August as a return date.

His recovery up to this point has gone better than expected, however, meaning a potential return against Worcestershire on July 22 could be in the pipeline.

Trescothick was due to spend some time in the field in this week's Second XI Championship match against Sussex at Taunton Vale, but he now looks set to feature with the bat as well.

The veteran's return is a timely boost for Somerset, who have lost the services of Australian opener Matt Renshaw due to a finger injury.

Entry to the match at Taunton Vale is free and play starts at 11am.

Today (Tuesday), Somerset 2nds are involved in a T20 double header against Sussex at Taunton Vale.

The first match went the way of the hosts, who posted 176-7 with George Bartlett (69 from 44 balls), captain for the day Dom Bess (27 from 28) and 16-year-old Will Smeed (26 from 13) in the runs - seamer George Garton, who spent time in the England Pace Programme over the winter, took 1-50 in his four overs.

In reply, Bess took 3-14 from four overs and Ben Green claimed 4-21 as Sussex were bowled out for 139.

Somerset look well set for victory in the second match too, currently stood at 100-4 from 13.4 overs in pursuit of 136 to win.

Paul van Meekeren took 4-26 as Sussex were bowled out for 135 - click here for a live scorecard.

There is also action at the Cooper Associates County Ground this week, with India A taking on West Indies A.
