TAUNTON Town's long unbeaten run faces perhaps its sternest examination yet, as the Peacocks travel to Weymouth tonight (ko 7.45pm).

Taunton are undefeated in 35 league games, and impressed in their 4-0 opening day victory at home to Staines Town on Saturday.

But Weymouth are considered the favourites to win Evo-Stik Southern League Premier Division South, and so the Peacocks go into tonight's match at the Bob Lucas Stadium as underdogs.

Portuguese forward Douglas Camilo is still waiting international clearance to play, while defenders Ben Adelsbury and Keith Emmerson both face late fitness tests.

Adelsbury and Emmerson's availability could impact on whether manager Leigh Robinson sticks with the 4-3-3 formation deployed against Staines, or reverts to the three at the back system which has served him so well over the last couple of seasons.

Robinson told the County Gazette: "It's a hell of a tough game on Tuesday night - arguably Weymouth are favourites for the league, as a big club with a big budget and a good squad.

"There's not many games that we're underdogs for, but we will be on Tuesday!

"But with the group of players that we've got, they'll be determined to put themselves up against these sorts of teams - it's what last season's promotion was all about - and we want another positive result to put us on the map again."

TO get an idea of what Taunton are up against, we spoke to Aidan Williams, of the Dorset Echo.

"Weymouth are looking to improve on a fantastic campaign last year, after finishing fifth in the table with 97 points.

"The Terras’ promotion hopes last season ended with a 3-0 defeat at King’s Lynn Town, who lost to Slough Town in the playoff final.

"Manager Mark Molesley has admitted it will take some doing to improve on last season but he feels he has enough quality in his squad.

"Weymouth have retained the vast majority of last season’s squad.

"And they have bolstered their strike force, adding Josh McQuoid, Warren Bentley and Tony Lee, while bringing in goalkeepers Jordan Seabright and Lloyd Thomas.

"Weymouth at their best can tear through opponents at will, particularly through the pace of Ben Thomson and Abdulai Baggie.

"The squad was largely put together in Molesley’s first pre-season last summer and they are very obviously tight-knit."

Players to watch:

Brandon Goodship (forward): In his first season he scored 38 goals to be the league’s top goalscorer, and consistently delivers a potent spearhead for the Terras’ attack - as shown at the weekend, when he scored a hat-trick in the 3-2 win over Harrow Borough.

Josh McQuoid (forward): The former Bournemouth player has recently signed for the club and it will be interesting to see how he gels with the attack.

Callum Buckley (defender): He took the manager’s player of the season award last year, is consistently reliable in the Terras’ defence and has enjoyed a solid pre-season.
