Toolstation League Division 1: Longwell Green 2, Wellington 3.

WELLINGTON staged a remarkable late fightback to maintain their unbeaten record under new manager Leigh Robinson last Saturday.

Trailing 2-1 with only ten minutes to go, they looked to be heading for their first defeat of the season but a pair of goals in the dying minutes turned the game on its head.

In fact, Wellington had to come from behind twice to take the points and maintain their second place in the table behind Cadbury Heath.

Longwell Green took the lead after 17 minutes when visiting defender Dave Anthony was judged to have fouled Chris Dauncy as the home striker raced clear.

Dauncy's penalty kick was smothered by keeper Ryan Lewis but he followed up to put home the rebound.

An evenly-contested first half saw Wellington draw level on the half-hour as a corner by skipper Simon Ingram was headed home at the near post by central defender Scott Holland, who is a target for premier division Chard Town.

Wellington started the second half brightly and both Nick Woon and Craig Mawford went close but it was Longwell Green who went ahead again in the 80th minute, Chris Always finding sub Dan Tanner to fire home with the visitors appealing in vain for offside.

That goal sparked Wellington into life and they tore into Longwell from the re-start, Woon being unlucky to see a spectacular effort ruled out for offside.

With five minutes remaining, they looked to have salvaged a point as Woon headed home a cross by Shaun Anthony after a neat build-up.

But it got even better two minutes later when some more clever approach work saw sub Simon Elsley's low cross reach Anthony to tap home a dramatic winning goal.

Wellington gave a debut to new signing Alex Rudd, from Hellenic League side Highworth, and he showed some useful touches when he came on up front.

Wellington: Ryan Lewis, Craig Mawford, Scott Holland, Daniel Short, Dave Anthony, Greg Blenkinsop, Simon Ingram, Andy Butler, Craig Herrod, Shaun Anthony, Nick Woon. Subs: Simon Elsley, Alex Rudd, James Clough (all used).
