TAUNTON'S Jake Chapman has won gold at the World Traditional Karate Association Championships for the second year running.
The 14-year-old Bishop Fox's student clinched the title as part of the three-man England team and also picked up two bronze medals at the event in Italy.
The 2007 competition was stronger than ever, held over four and including 62 countries.
Jake was entered into six categories by the England team head coach Clayton Murrain, who is a seventh Dan black belt.
Jake competed in the under 60kg, 13-16-year-old group and, by the end of the three days of qualifying, he had already won two bronze medals.
On the fourth day, for the finals, Jake and the England team fought in the traditional boys cadet team class, winning the gold medal and the title of 2007 World Champions 2007. As well as a gold medal Jake received an engraved samurai sword.
This is the second year in a row that Jake and the team have been crowned world champions and is a testament to his dedication and commitment to his sport.
Jake trains three nights a week - in Bridgwater, Weston-Super-Mare and Bath - and most weekends he travels around the country to compete or train as part of the England squad.
