SOMERSET fast bowler Steffan Jones is urging his team-mates to replicate the class of 2001's achievements when they take on Kent in the quarter-final of the Friends Provident Trophy.

Seven years ago Jones took the final wicket to clinch victory for Somerset over Leicestershire in, what was then called, the Cheltenham and Gloucester Trophy at Lord's.

Jones, who has spells at Derbyshire and Northamtonshire since then, said: "Those of us who went to Lord's back in 2001 will never forget that day and it is something that we will all be eager to achieve again this season.

"So we will be going all out at Canterbury to get the result we want and put ourselves in the semi-finals."

Somerset coach Andy Hurry said: "This is a good draw for us because one of our targets was to get through to the latter stages of this competition and we have got quite a good track record against Kent.

"However they are a strong side and we need to have learned our lessons from the one-day games that we have played so far this season."

Although Somerset have progressed to the last eight of the competiton, the club's director of cricket Brian Rose said: "We will be looking to pick up the pace in the Friends Provident Trophy and putting a lot of effort into working on our fielding. In this game a crucial piece of fielding can prove to be vital."

All-rounder Pete Trego, who missed the recent Championship victory against Surrey at Whitgift School, is fit again and joins Wes Durston and John Francis in Somerset's squad.

The squad is Marcus Trescothick, Craig Keiswetter, Justin Langer, James Hildreth, Ian Blackwell, Zander De Bruyn, John Francis, Wes Durston, Ben Phillips, Steffan Jones, Alfonso Thomas, Charl Willoughby and Pete Trego.

The match gets underway at noon.
