Dulverton mark cup return with victory


DULVERTON Town marked their first appearance in the Somerset Junior Cup for ten years with a 2-1 win away to Bath Arsenal.

Damian Syrett and Adrian Smith netted for Dulverton against the side who defeated Civil Service in the final of last season’s Intermediate Cup only to have the title taken away for fielding an ineligible player.

Porlock secured a 2-0 win at home to Winscombe – Richie Rich and Alistair Cook got the goals – but Alcombe Rovers, who have won all three league games were crushed 5-0 by Sportzcoach.

The other Taunton League side, Cannington, lost 5-2 away to Clevedon United 3rds.

Bridgwater Sports remain unbeaten and top of Divsion One thanks to a 2-1 win at home to Wyvern. Jack Taylor scored both Sports’ goal with Ross Woodruff netting from a corner for Wyvern.

Matt Arnold and Luke Desave netted for Hulan who went down 3-2 against Middlezoy.

In the only other top flight game, Taverners beat Marketeers 6-2 with Mark Kmita hitting a hat-trick, Tom Wadham scoring twice and Gareth Conway also on target.

In the Division Two top of the table clash, Woolavington Predators secured a 2-1 win at home to Nether Stowey.

Bishops Lydeard Reserves jumped from fifth to second thanks to a 10-2 thrashing of Wyvern Reserves, who had taken then lead.

Lee Hellier’s penalty put Wyvern in front but goals from James Walsh, Dave Richardson (2), Martin Groody, Andrew Springer and Jamie Langford made it 6-1 at the break. Gav Step and sub Terry Davies (3) completed the scoring for the hosts before a Hellier consolation.

Bridgwater Sports Reserves had a 2-1 home win over Westonzoyland, while Civil Service returned to winning ways with a 6-1 victory at Spaxton. Player-manager Rob Allan hit a hat trick with Spyros Siakoufis, Marcus Gauntlett and Chris Griffen also on target.

Wembdon have opened up a gap at the top of Division Three after a 6-3 home win over Old Inn whose scorers were Steve Scorse, Mike Burley and Rob Chidgey.

Sydenham Rangers have held on to second place despite going down 5-1 away to Staplegrove Reserves who had Mark Willis (3) and Damien Polzcynski (2) on target.

White Hart Rangers won 6-3 away to Milverton to move into third. The hosts’ scorers were Chase Billett, Adam Woods and Callum David.

Watchet Town Reserves and Bridgwater Sports Colts played out a goal-less draw, while North Petherton defeated Williton 4-2.

In Division Four, Appletree maintained their 100% record with a 5-2 win at home to Hamilton Hawks. Duncan Lane netted twice with Ian Salter and Shane Somers scoring one each and Hawks providing an own goal. Scoring at the right end for Hawks were Robert Chambers and Joe Corbin.

Dulverton Reserves fought back from 5-1 down at home to to Wembdon Saints who held on to win 5-4. Tom Edworthy, Lee Hooper, Darren Heard and Dan Whiston were Dulverton’s scorers.

Matt Bleeks netted a hat-trick for Norton Fitzwarren Reserves who beat Staplegrove Colts 5-1. Dave Buckingham and Joe Enticott added one each while Adam Smith scored for ’Grove. Exmoor Rangers had a 2-0 away win at Middlezoy Rovers Reserves.

Highbridge Reserves started the game against Stogursey with no appointed referee. A Stogursey representative agreed to take the whistle but, following an incident during the game, it was abandoned.

The league committee will decide at their next meeting if any action is required.
