British Gas Business League Division 1 (S&W): Taunton Town 2, Abingdon Utd 2.

A GOAL in injury time denied Taunton Town a much-needed victory last Saturday.

Billy Beechers struck in time added on to rescue a point for the visitors from Oxfordshire.

Taunton led twice through John Harris and Leon Simpson, who was making his home debut, but on both occasions the visitors hit back.

Following on from their battling display against Bridgwater, the Peacocks produced a much-improved performance which shoulh have yielded all three points.

Taunton should have taken the lead within 30 seconds, when Leon Taswell – also playing his first home game for the club – sent a header straight at Abingdon keeper Sam Warrell.

Anaclet Odhiambo had a good chance for Abingdon midway through the first half, but dragged a shot wide of the far post.

Taunton took a deserved lead just past the half hour mark when the ball was played to far post and Harris won a challenge before powering home his shot.

The Peacocks continued to press after the break and Danny Lane forced a good save out of Warrell who tipped the shot wide.

But Taunton failed to make their pressure count and paid the price when substitute Matthew Biddle scored with his first touch, forcing home Luke Holden’s cross.

Taunton, to their credit kept pushing forward, and restored their advantage 24 minutes from time when a corner reached Simpson who fired home.

And, just as it looked like Taunton would hold on for all three points, former Oxford United striker Beechers was allowed too much room in the area and picked his spot through a crowd of players.
