TAUNTON Town manager Ian Jones believes the club’s financial situation is preventing him from doing his job.

Leon Taswell and Lee Bridson left the club after a cut to the playing budget and Jones had to quickly bring in replacements for last Saturday’s game with Hayes, which they lost 4-1.

Jones says he wants to remain as boss but admits the constant upheaval is unsettling.

He said: “The club’s financial situation means it’s very difficult to manage.

“Having to constantly chop and change players means I’m not getting the chance to work with a settled side and it shows.

“The budget needs to be sorted out one way or the other – I want to keep doing the job but I need to be able to work with a settled side.”

Keeper Lloyd Irish, his brother Owen, who is a centre back, and striker Twaine Plummer all came into the squad last Saturday, while Shaun Anthony returned after a spell in the Taunton Saturday League.

Lloyd Irish trains with Yeovil Town on a non-contract basis, while Owen has recently been released by the Glovers. Twaine Plummer, who had a spell with Taunton last season, was signed from Radstock Town.

Jones said: “I’m very pleased with the three lads I’ve brought in. Lloyd’s an excellent keeper and trains full-time with Yeovil which is a good sign.

“Owen hasn’t played for a few months and is lacking fitness, but also showed plenty of potential.

“Twaine’s also lacking match fitness but I know he can offer us plenty. If I can keep the group of players I’ve got now, I know I have enough quality to work with.”

Jones takes his new-look squad to face local rivals Bridgwater Town in Division One of the BGB League this Saturday.

The sides have already met this season in the GX League Cup, with Bridgwater pipping Town 4-3 after extra-time.

Taunton welcome Scott Thomas back to the squad after suspension.
