SOMERSET paceman Mark Turner believes 2009 is his make-or-break season, writes Richard Walsh.

The 24-year-old has won a place on the England Academy despite failing to hold down a regular place since joining from Durham in 2006.

He spent December in Florida on the ECB elite fast bowler development programme and, since Christmas, has been at the national academy.

Turner returns to Taunton at the weekend for a two-week spell with his Somerset colleagues, before going to India for ten days, as part of the ECB programme where he will be working with legend Dennis Lillee.

However, Turner says he can forget about playing for England until he becomes a Somerset regular and believes 2009 is his best chance to nail down a place.

He said: “I can’t start dreaming about playing for England until I have got myself a regular spot in the Somerset team and make a name for myself and that is my target for this year.

“This season is make or break for me at Somerset. I am 24 now and I can no longer be classed a promising youngster so I need to start playing regularly for Somerset.

“I am looking to feature in all forms of the game.

“I feel I showed potential last year and now believe I can be a first team regular and make the difference for Somerset in 2009.”
