TAUNTON Town kicked off the season with a battling 2-2 draw away to Gosport Borough in the Zamaretto League Division One (South and West) on Saturday.

Twaine Plummer gave the Peacocks the lead on seven minutes, converting Alexis Piper’s free-kick.

The hosts levelled five minutes later when Ryan Hill’s corner found it’s way into the net.

Gosport went in front ten minutes after the break through James Ward but, almost straight away, substitute Danny Lane fired home a shot from the edge of the area to put Taunton level.

Taunton had to work hard for a point after having substitute Nick McCootie sent off for an off-the-ball incident with 18 minutes left, but held out for a deserved draw.

Taunton: Lloyd Irish, Neil Bailey, Dave Anthony, Owen Irish, James Clough, Shaun Anthony (Danny Lane 45), John Harris (capt), Twaine Plummer (Lewis Irish 79), Leon Simpson (Nick McCootie 65), Darren Rice. Subs not used: Nick Peare, Leroy Swabey.

Taunton are in action again on Tuesday, when Paulton Rovers visit Wordsworth Drive for a league game.
