TAUNTON Town boss Paul West was full of praise for his side despite their 2-1 defeat at Hungerford in the Zamaretto League on Saturday.

The Peacocks’ boss criticised his players following their FA Cup defeat to Merthyr the previous weekend but was pleased with their response and said they did not deserve to lose.

He said: “Everything we did badly against Merthyr, we did right at Hungerford.

“We really worked hard and got about them and should have won.

“Apart from the goal, we created three great chances and if they go in, we win.

“But we didn’t and paid the price by conceding two late goals.”

Hungerford levelled with an own goal from debutant Nick Peare, but West was delighted with the left-back’s performance.

He said: “Nick deserved his chance and was outstanding in his first game and there was nothing he could’ve done about the own goal.”

Taunton return to Wordsworth Drive on Saturday when Hayes are the visitors. and West is desperate to bounce back.

He said: “After two straight defeats in the league, it’s crucial we pick up three points.”

Taunton will be without centre back Owen Irish, who has picked up a knee injury, but Leon Simpson, Dave Anthony and keeper Lloyd Irish all return.
