SOMERSET’S Max Waller has been named in the ECB squads to attend an enhanced England Performance Programme.

The 21-year-old leg spinner, who made his Somerset debut this season, will be involved in training camps at the National Cricket Performance Centre at Loughborough as well as at the CSA High Performance Centre in Pretoria, South Africa, in November and December.

Both camps will feature competitive cricket.

Waller said: “I am delighted at the prospect of developing my bowling through the ECB spin development programme.

“I understand the areas of my game I need to work on and being given the opportunity to work with experienced, highly regarded coaches is inspiring.”

Brian Rose, Somerset’s director of cricket said: “Max is making great strides in terms of his one-day bowling and it will be exciting to see him in combination with Murali Kartik next season.”

Waller made an impression after announcing his arrival on the scene in May in the opening Twenty20 Cup game against Glamorgan in Cardiff.

He has played in both Somerset group games in the Twenty20 Champions League in India.

Waller held in high regard by the cricketing authorities and was one of only two young leg spinners invited by the ECB to take part in a spin clinic run by Shane Warne during the final Ashes Test match at the Oval in the summer.

That clinic was screened live on Sky during the lunch interval.
