TAUNTON Town have now gone ten games without a victory following their 2-0 defeat away to Paulton Rovers in the Zamaretto League Division One South and West on Saturday.

The Peacocks matched their hosts for long periods but had nothing to show for it against a side gearing up for their televised FA Cup first round tie at home to Norwich City this weekend.

Taunton’s side featured tough-tackling midfielder Andy Butler, who has signed from neighbours Wellington, and he had a promising league debut.

Paulton enjoyed the better of the early exchanges and went in front on 20 minutes when Matt Cooper fired home a shot.

The goal spurred Taunton into life and Danny Lane headed Darren Rice’s cross just wide before half-time.

The Peacocks continued to press after the interval with Shaun Anthony having an effort saved by Paulton keeper Kyle Phillips after being set up by James Clough.

However, Taunton failed to make their pressure tell and Paulton extended the lead on the hour mark when Chris Lane’s cross was turned into his own goal by centre back Neil Bailey.

Taunton huffed and puffed in search of a way back but it was the host who went closest to another goal through Rob Claridge’s strike from distance.
