Saturday League: Dulverton end Highbridge's run


DULVERTON Town inflicted a first league defeat of the season on Highbridge Town as they beat the leaders 2-1 in Division One of the Taunton Saturday League.

Nick Phillips and Adrian Smith were on target for Dulverton with Willl Bailey on the scoresheet for Highbridge.

Newly promoted Nether Stowey closed the gap on top side with a 4-0 victory over Taverners, Matt Stevenson, Chris Lynham, Phil Simms and Dale Shepherd getting the goals. In Division Two, Bridgwater Sports Reserves could have gone level with leaders Predators but were held at home 2-2 by Sydenham Rangers.

Paul Organ, who also missed a penalty, scored two for Sports with Bob Smith and Tom Grimmett netting for Sydenham Rangers.

Staplegrove Reserves picked up their first victory of the season coming from behind to beat Civil Service 3-1.

Marcus Gauntlett put Civil ahead but goals from Keith Cooper, Liam Leavy and a Mark Willis penalty secured the points for ’Grove.

Westonzoyland and Minehead Reserves shared the points in a 3-3 draw. Mark Modley (2) and Nathan Barnard were Westonzoyland’s scores with Tom Sparks (2) and Kenzie Farnham on target for Minehead.

In Division Three, Appletree went level with top side North Petherton following a 4-1 victory over Middlezoy Rovers Reserves with two goals from Duncan Lane and one each from Mark Kmita and Rob Perry.

Bridgwater Sports Colts held onto third spot despite only drawing 3-3 at Exmoor, whose goals came from Jordan Clarke and Richard Hayes.

Norton Fitzwarren picked up their second win of the season, beating Spaxton 6-4, with Dave Buckingham (2), Dominic Cavill (2), Joe Enticott and James Garrad getting their goals.

In another ten-goal thriller, Old Inn Allstars went down 7-3 to Williton. Rob Chidgey and Chris McKee netted for Old Inn who were also gifted an own goal but returned the favour for Williton whose goals came from Tom Richards (2), Chris Pople (2), Joe Fitzsimmons and Mitchell Blande.

There are now three teams level on points at the top of Division Four. One of them, Bishops Lydeard Colts, had a 4-1 victory over Norton Fitzwarren Reserves thanks to goals from Lloyd Udell, Jamie Verdan and Roberto Francini (2). Kev Smith netted for Norton.

Also up there are Hamilton Hawks following their 5-1 win over North Petherton Reserves, Rob Chambers (2), Kris Sangster, Aarron Coles and Graham Fitt on the scoresheet. Ronnie Robilliard replied for Pethy.

Milverton secured a 7-3 victory at home to Bridgwater Grasshoppers with strikes from Mike Radford (4), Craig Plumridge (2) and Ross Sweeney one.

There was another 7-3 score line at Staplegrove where their Colts beat Nether Stowey Reserves with two goals from player-manager Jon Forward and Adam Smith, one a piece from Nick Richards, Mike Perry and Jake Quick. Stogursey beat Dulverton Town Reserves 2-1, Damian Syrett netting for Town.

Result of the day in the Rowbarton Charity Cup saw Division One’s bottom side Cannington Colts defeat champs Bridgwater Sports 4-2. Two penalties from Rob Fearn, an own goal and substitute Mark Pope were on target for Cannington with Craig McGann and Liam Derrick netting for Sports.

Wembdon Saints knocked out higher-division Hulan 3-0 with Neil Barnett scoring twice and Richie Meek once.

White Hart Rangers took top flight Porlock all the way, before eventually going out 3-2. James Osborne and John Chmiewliski netted for the home side with Gary Bennett, Andrew Woodward and Richard Binding winning the game for Porlock.

All the other games went with league hierarchy. Alcombe needed extra-time to beat Sampford Blues 2-0, with George Jackson and Jason Hill on target.

Locomotives saw off Wembdon 4-0 with goals from Karl Farrell, Matty Pounde, Henry Cox and Matt Lukins.

Andy Smith got the only goal of the game as Middlezoy Rovers pipped North Petherton 1-0.
