TAUNTON Town manager Paul West will give current strike pairing Nick McCootie and Twaine Plummer a run of games to prove themselves.

Lack of goals has been a major factor in Town’s slide into the bottom four in the Zamaretto League Division South and West.

And, on Tuesday night, they crashed out of the Somerset Premier Cup 1-0 at the hands of Toolstation League Division highflyers Wells City.

Despite the poor run, West has faith in his squad and is backing Plummer and McCootie.

He said: “Nick and Twaine will get a run in the side like Shaun Anthony and Alexis Piper were given.

“Nick has been injured and Twaine has been unavailable but, with games under their belt, I’m confident the goals will come.

“Results haven’t been good enough but that is purely down to lack of goals.

“If we had finished half our chances we would be far higher up the table. I’m confident things will come good.”

Taunton are on the road on Saturday when they travel to play North Leigh in the league.

Midfielder Darren Rice is out injured, while defender Owen Irish is suspended.
