Taunton Town have made two new signings but fear they could be about to lose their contingent of Bristol-based players.

The Peacocks have recruited centre back Dan Short from Wellington and talented midfielder Rodney Marsh, who has been playing in the local Saturday League – both are Taunton-based.

However, Zamaretto League rivals Yate Town have given notice of an approach for striker Twaine Plummer.

Taunton’s assistant manager Paul Short believes if Plummer goes, the club could also lose fellow Bristol-based players Nick McCootie, Kristian Miller, Ben Newby and Leon Simpson but is not fazed by the possibility.

Short said: “Twaine comes from the Bristol area so I would say there’s every chance he will leave.

“And if he goes, it’s likely the other Bristol lads will follow, but we’re not overly worried about it.

“We only want players who want to play for Taunton Town.

“We’re slowly building a side of Taunton lads and we think that will serve the club well in the long term, but it’s going to take time.”

Taunton, whose game at North Leigh was postponed on Saturday, have gone 14 games without a win, but Short is confident they will stave off relegation.

He said: “We’ve been struggling of late, but things are coming together.

“The spirit in the squad is great and will only get better with the local players we’re bringing in.

“The results will come and we’ll stay up – I’m willing to stick my head on the block about that.”

Taunton face a tough test on Saturday when second-placed Abingdon United visit Wordsworth Drive.

Marsh and Short are both in the squad but centre back Owen Irish is still out with a knee injury.

WELLINGTON return to Toolstation League Division One action on Saturday when they host Street.

Meanwhile, Wellington have received seven days’ notice of approach from league rivals Dawlish Town for midfielder Simon Ingram.
