Taunton Town slipped to their fifth defeat from six matches with after crashing 4-0 away to Mangotsfield United in the Zamaretto League Division One South and West on Saturday.

The Peacocks conceded three times in the final 17 minutes after having to play for most of the match with only ten men. Makeshift centre back Danny Lane was sent off just before the interval after receiving two yellow cards.

Taunton’s best effort of a poor opening period came on 14 minutes when Alexis Piper’s shot from a tight angle was saved by Sam Alexander.

The hosts took the lead on 24 minutes with their first chance as ex-QPR midfielder Michael Meaker went round Dan Short and set up Mitchell Paige to side foot home.

To make matters worse, Taunton were reduced to ten men in the final minute of the half when Lane received his second caution for a foul on Meaker.

Taunton continued to battle after the interval, despite their numerical disadvantage, although keeper Lloyd Irish was called on to make a couple of sharp saves.

The visitors could have found themselves level with 20 minutes remaining when Craig Veal ran clear after a defensive error but was his effort was blocked by Alexander.

And within a minute, the hosts doubled their advantage when Irish saved Page’s shot but Josh Brigham followed up to score.

Meaker made it 3-0 with 12 minutes left after being put through by Tom Knighton and the roles were reversed for the final goal on 82 minutes, Meaker crossing for Knighton to fire home a low shot.
