SOMERSET Sabres paceman Charl Willoughby is backing his side to win at least one limited overs competition, as they gear up for their Clydesdale Bank 40-over League opener on Sunday.

The Cidermen travel to take on Glamorgan at the SWALEC Stadium in Cardiff (1.45pm start) and South Afrcian Willoughby predicts a successful season in the short form of the game.

He said: “We have strengthened our squad nicely with Nick Compton who is an aggressive top order batter which will fit in well with Tres (Marcus Trescothick) and Craig (Kieswetter).

“It means we should get off to good starts and be in a better position whether we are batting first or chasing down totals.

“I think we are a much stronger batting side this year and we have got a pretty good chance in both the 40-over game and the Twenty20.

“The players have worked very very hard in the Twenty20 game and will have gained a lot from the experiences of playing in India last autumn, but I think we have got equally as good a chance in the 40 over game.

“I think we are in a very strong position to win one of them and starting on Sunday that’s what we will be going all out to achieve.”
