GOLF: Ian and Co win yellow ball contest

A YELLOW ball competition was held at Taunton and Pickeridge Golf Club on November 6.

The competition was played in teams of four with three scores to count – with the yellow ball counting as double points.

The competition was won by the team of Ian Collins, Doug Sharp, Vince Jackson and Chris Puckett with 166 points from Bob and Ian McWilliams with Matt and Scott Wallbutton also with 166 points.

Ken Mackay, Richard Evered, Malcolm Mynett and Harry Brown took third place with 158 points from Eric Gibbs, Colin Russell, Phil Jones and Duncan Farrow, also with 158 points.

November Mid-Week Stableford: Played on November 3 the winner of the competition was Jamie Carr with 38 points from Roy Mitchell 37, Graham Hayward 37 and Andrew Shepherd 36.

Ladies 3 Clubs and a Putter: The overall winner of the competition was Angela Hollis with 35 points.

The silver division was won by Jane Ledsham with 32 points from Corrine Lyon 32 and Roisin Burree 31.

The bronze division was won by Angela Hollis with 35 points from Jill Paul 32 and Janet Kingston 32.

Weekend Stableford: The competition on November 7 was won by Paul De Jaeger with 37 points from Angus Hamilton 37 and M. Hopper 31 points.

n IT was very much a family affair at the head of Division 1 in Saturday’s Stableford Qualifier competition at Taunton Vale Golf Club.

James Keitch was the winner in the top flight with 41 points, four better than his brother Dan who edged into second spot ahead of Russell Peck on countback after both returned with 37.

There was a two-way tie at the top of Division 2 but after countback it was Ian Dawe who was the winner and Paul McKinley second after both scored 40 points, while Rob Hodge was third with 39.

Peter Moore with 36 points won Division 3, one ahead of second-placed Ryan Potter, with Alan Maidment third with 34(b9).

The top division of the October Running Stableford was won by Paddy Vearncombe with 43 points but only after countback put him ahead of second placed Mike Andrews. Dave Chesney was third with 41points.

Les Oaten won Divison 2 with 33 points, while Dave Pitman claimed second and third places with 32 and 31.

Meanwhile, the Vale Junior section is going from strength to strength under the guidance of Diane Gough and currently more than 100 youngsters under 17 belong at the Club.

The former Lady Captain took over as the Juniors’ Organiser earlier this year and has put a tremendous amount of effort in to the section, increasing numbers and improving their playing ability. In addition, she has introduced a Juniors Club Night on a Monday evening which will move to a Saturday afternoon throughout the winter which is proving to be a great success.
