Taunton Town face an FA Cup replay at Buckland Athletic tomorrow evening following a 1-1 with the Devon side at Wordsworth Drive on Saturday.

With a side containing six former Taunton players (and the son of another), Carlsberg South West Peninsula League champions Buckland Athletic proved stern FA Cup opposition.

And, predictably, it was Gary Fisher - their most recent Wordsworth Drive hero - who gave his new club the lead as early as the eighth minute with a smartly taken goal.

Town’s first chance came after 26 minutes when Craig Veal worked the ball on to his right foot but fired just over. Ross MacNab was then just inches wide with a headed effort a few moments later.

However, the Devonians finished the first half back on top, Danny Lewis tenaciously winning the ball in midfield and bursting through to push a shot just wide of the target.

The Buckland goal lived a charmed life in the second half as Town piled on the pressure and in one frantic move efforts from Darren Rice and Rodney Marsh were both scrambled off the line.

In a fabulous move after 62 minutes, Marsh fed Jon Vance who then located MacNab with a glorious long pass.

However, the striker lifted his lob just over Kenny Griffiths’s bar.

But the deserved equaliser was only six minutes away. Craig Veal flicked a Rice corner on to the cross bar, and Danny Lane nodded home the rebound from very close range.

In a frenetic finale both sides had good chances to bag the prize money and trip to Weymouth for the next round. But, after a protracted period of stoppage time, they could not be separated necessitating a Tuesday night replay at Homers Heath (7.30pm).
